Detect MRSA with Confidence
Introducing the Microzone MRSA qPCR Detection Kit
Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) remains a significant public health concern, responsible for severe infections in hospitals, long-term care facilities, and increasingly, in community settings. Its resistance to beta-lactam antibiotics, including methicillin, oxacillin, and cephalosporins, makes MRSA particularly challenging to treat. Rapid and accurate identification of MRSA strains is essential not only for initiating effective antimicrobial therapy but also for controlling outbreaks and limiting transmission.
Traditionally, MRSA is identified through culture-based methods combined with antibiotic susceptibility testing, which can take 24–48 hours to yield results. In contrast, real-time PCR (qPCR) provides a powerful alternative—delivering highly sensitive and specific detection of resistance and species-specific genes within just a few hours.
The Microzone MRSA qPCR Detection Kit is designed to detect both the methicillin resistance genes (mecA and mecC) and the species-specific markers (femA and nuc) of Staphylococcus aureus. This dual-target design ensures accurate differentiation between MRSA-positive (methicillin-resistant S. aureus), MSSA (methicillin-sensitive S. aureus), and MR-NAS (methicillin-resistant non-aureus staphylococci). The assay also includes a built-in Internal Amplification Control (IAC) to confirm the integrity of each PCR reaction and rule out false negatives.
The kit employs dual-labelled hydrolysis probe technology, the gold standard in qPCR, for highly specific real time detection. Fluorescence is measured in the FAM (S. aureus specific genes), Cy5 (mecA/mecC), and HEX (IAC) channels, ensuring robust signal clarity and easy interpretation. Importantly, the kit contains all of the necessary components for qPCR and requires no further optimisation—making it ideal for both experienced molecular labs and those new to MRSA testing.
Additionally, the included MegaMix Platinum qPCR Mastermix contains dUTP/UNG chemistry, which actively eliminates false positives caused by amplicon contamination, further enhancing confidence in your results.
Designed for ease-of-use, the Microzone MRSA Detection Kit supports both traditional nucleic acid extraction and direct-to-PCR lysis using Microzone’s own microLYSIS® Plus. This flexibility makes the kit ideal for both routine diagnostics and high-throughput environments.
